Discrimination of aniline and benzaldehyde assisted with Fisher's base

We report a strategy for achieving the selective detection of benzaldehyde and aniline by using Fischer's base (Cy237). The response of Cy237 to benzaldehyde and aniline yielded obvious color changes and a fluorescence redshift after 405 nm-wavelength LED light irradiation, and visual detection of benzaldehyde and aniline by the naked eye was realized. Furthermore, Cy237 was successfully applied for the discrimination of benzene series compounds in effluent and food.
